PARTICIPANTS

Davide Angheleddu (ITL)
studied Architecture at Politecnico di Milano in 2000. During his first design experience, he developed a concept of digital representation, which would act not just as a technical tool for illustrating a project, but also as a means to show progression, starting from an initial seed for reaching the ideal shape. This concept has been the basis of much of his artistic output since then. In 2005 he began to develop a personal concept of digital art that is inspired by natural shapes. This work has come to fruition and has been shown in several international art exhibitions in London, Milan, New York and Santiago de Compostela.

Art Clay (USA/CHE)
is an artist and curator who was born in New York and lives in Basel. He is a specialist in the performance of self created works with the use of intermedia and has appeared at international festivals, on radio and television television in Europe, Asia & north America. His recent work focuses on media based works and large performative works and spectacles using mobile device. He has won prizes for performance, theatre, new media art and curation. He has taught media and interactive arts at various Art Schools and Universities in Europe and North America including the University of the Arts in Zurich. He is the initiator and Artistic Director of the 'Digital Art Weeks' in Zurich.

Austin Seungmin Lee (KOR)
Austin Seungmin Lee is a designer living and working in the United States. A former Research Assistant at the MIT Media Lab's Tangible Media Group, Lee has explored system design for collaborative drawing and sharing 3D information. Previously, Lee was awarded the National Space Grant and worked at NASA JPL as a visual strategist, where he was in charge of technical development of an interactive installation that promoted the Juno mission. He has received design awards for his work from the Red Dot and the Adobe Design Achievement Award. His projects were shown internationally at CHI, UIST, SIGGRAPH Asia’s Emerging Technology, IDSA's International Conference, and the Swiss Design Network Conference. Currently, Lee is working at Microsoft, Bellevue, WA. MS, Media Arts and Sciences, MIT; MFA, Media Design, Art Center College of Design; BFA, Kookmin University.

Bastaus Trump (USA) \\ Bastus Trump is a sound designer, saxophonist, and sound artist. He completed the Master's program Sound Studies at the University of Arts Berlin from the development of an electronic percussion instrument for touchscreens. In 2009 he was awarded the Leonard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize of the city of Fürth to promote young artists and has been to listen to different sound artistic approaches in exhibitions, concerts and performances.

Bernhard Egger (CHE/KOR)
Bernhard Egger is an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Seoul National University (SNU). He received a combined B.Sc./M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich, ETHZ) in 2001 and a PhD degree in Computer Science from SNU in 2008. After obtaining his PhD degree, he spent three years as a senior research engineer at Samsung's central research facility, the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) before re-joining SNU in March of 2011. He is currently (February 2014 - July 2014) a visiting professor at the Department of Computer Science of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich.

Bushman alias Frédéric Utiger (CHE)
One day in February 2000 the young rebel was captivated by mysterious, tribal, animal and wild Indigenous Australians. The beginning of adventures and sacred meetings began. Self-taught, he perfected the didgeridoo and percussion instruments abroad and Drums and Percussion Center in Geneva. He travelled in Europe and Australia, playing in the street, in bars, schools and participated in several musical projects.

Caroline Bernard (CHE)
Caroline Bernard is a professor at Vevey’s School of Photography. She was a contributing scientific associate of the Formes de l’interactivité laboratory of Geneva University of Art and Design exploring new forms of cinema. Bernard was a guest professor in the EAVM – UQAM in Montreal, and is scheduled to complete a PhD at University of Paris in 2014.

Catherine Young (PHI)
Catherine is an artist, scientist, designer, explorer, and writer whose work primarily explores human perception and its relationships to memory, creativity, and play. Her work combines art and science to create stories, objects, and experiences that facilitate wonder and human connection. Her first solo exhibition was in a science museum. She received her degree in molecular biology and biotechnology from Manila, fine art from Barcelona, and has an MFA in Interaction Design from the School of Visual Arts in New York as a Fulbright scholar. Previously, she was on residencies and fellowships in New York, Barcelona, Seoul, Singapore, and Manila.

Cheng Ho Chen (TAI)
Chen Cheng-Ho, was born in Taiwan, is the game developer and researcher, he is eager to explore the possibility of the game as the powerful media to change the world. He has 8 year experiences in game industry and HCI research area, proficiency in developing mobile games, pervasive game, Augmented/Virtual Reality applications related to history education, psychology research, culture/social issues, etc. His project and research was appeared at mobile HCI/Edutainment related conference and shown in Taiwan, Tokyo, and Singpapore.

Claude Jordan (CHE)
Was born in Geneva, already flutist at a young age, he started his musical studies at the Geneva Conservatory, where he earned a professional degree in 1980. He also studied programming synthesizers, composition and counterpoint. Student of Rainer Boesch, he became a specialist of electro-acoustic music, and works actively to the integration of synthesis and traditional instruments. For more than twenty years, he has organized a series of sound production systems using the amplification of the flute, and the sound signal processing by electronic and computer processes. He works as composer for theater, dance and contemporary music. His discography contains about 15 albums, most of them collaborations (Jean-Bernard le Flic, Sskies, etc.) Since 1999, he teaches flute and electro-acoustics at the Conservatory and professional jazz school in Geneva.

David O Reilly (USA) \\ David OReilly is a filmmaker and artist based in Los Angeles. His work is often characterized by the use of intentionally stripped down 3d graphics. As a creator of the influential short films ‘Please Say Something’ and ‘The External World’, his animation work has garnered over 80 awards including Berlin’s Golden Bear, the Cartoon D’Or and awards at Sundance and the Venice Film Festival.

Douglas Jarvis (CAN)
Douglas Jarvis is an artist and curator living in Victoria, BC. He is a founding member of the avatar performance art group Second Front and the Noxious Sector Art Collective. His individual and collective projects have shown at G++ Interactive Media Arts Gallery (Victoria, BC), PAVED Arts (Saskatoon, SK), Latitude 53 (Edmonton, AB), Eastern Edge (St. John’s, NFLD), Harbour Front Gallery (Toronto, ON) and the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts (Xi’an, China). Jarvis was the 2010-11 Artist-in-residence Fellow at the Centre for Studies in Religion and Society, University of Victoria, and is currently Guest Curator at Open Space Arts Society (Victoria, BC) curating recent exhibitions by Deirdre Logue (Toronto, ON) and Susan MacWilliam (Belfast, N.Ireland). Jarvis holds an MFA in studio art from the University of Guelph, ON.

Enrico Costanza (ITL/GBR)
Before joining the IAM group, Enrico Costanza was a PhD student and research assistant in the Media and Design Lab at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), directed by Prof Jeffrey Huang. Earlier, he received an MS in Media Arts and Sciences at MIT Media Lab, with a thesis on "Subtle, Intimate Interfaces for Mobile Human Computer Interaction". At MIT he worked as a research assistant in Prof. Pattie Maes' Ambient Intelligence group, and also collaborated with the MIT SenseABLE City Lab. Earlier, he was part of the Liminal Devices Group at Media Lab Europe, and of the Media Engineering Group at the University of York, where he received an MEng in Electronic and Communication Engineering.

Esri R&D Center Zurich (CHE)
Esri R&D Center Zurich research on leading‐edge technologies in graphics, vision, and cartography and develops innovative 3D software products that are deployed on a global scale. The Esri R&D Center Zurich combines the best of academia and industry to lead UI development in WP5 and to contribute to 3D visualisation components. Their products include the Procedural AG modeling tool Esri® CityEngine® as well as general 3D solutions for desktop, web, and mobile devices based on Esri’s ArcGIS® platform.

Etter Studio (CHE)
Drei is the first major independent game release by Etter Studio, a small interdisciplinary firm from Zurich. The idea of Drei was written down in 2006. Four years later, in 2010, there was the sense that this idea could be turned into reality independently, given the advancement of technology. Etter Studio hired the talented Swiss game designer Mario von Rickenbach to lead the development and produced Drei collaboratively over the following three years.

Fabien Duperrex (CHE)
Fabien Duperrex graduated with Bachelor in Fine Arts and completed Masters degree in Media Design from HEAD Genève in 2014.

Haru Ji & Graham Wakefield (KOR/GBR)
A.N. is the artistic partnership of Haru Ji and Graham Wakefield, exploring the subject of life in art through “artificial natures”: a form of computational generative art creating artificial life ecosystems as immersive environments. Both artists hold Ph.D.s in Media Arts & Technology from the University of California Santa Barbara. Haru is currently an assistant professor of Art & Technology in the School of Integrated Knowledge at Sogang University in Seoul, Korea. Graham is a visiting professor at GCST, KAIST, Korea, and also a developer for Cycling ’74; both were previously post-doctoral researchers at the AlloSphere multi-user spherical immersive instrument at UCSB. Since 2008, A.N. have had over thirty-five exhibits across nine countries, including festivals and conferences such as ISEA, EvoWorkshops.

Human Brain Rep (CHE)
The Human Brain Project (HBP) is a research project which aims to simulate the human brain with supercomputers to better understand how it functions. The end hopes of the HBP include being able to mimic the human brain using computers and being able to better diagnose different brain problems. The project is directed by the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and co-directed by Heidelberg University, the University Hospital of Lausanne and the University of Lausanne. It is supported by the European Union as a 'FET Flagship' project and the 86 institutions involved will receive one billion euro in funding over ten years. Neural networks expert Geoffrey Hinton has expressed his doubts that the Human Brain Project will succeed, because it depends on "too many moving parts that no one yet understands"

Jackson 2Bears (CAN)
Jackson 2Bears is a Kanien’kehaka (Mohawk) multimedia artist. 2Bears has exhibited his multimedia works in solo and group exhibitions across Canada, most recently at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria (Victoria B.C), ImagineNative Film + Media Arts Festival (Toronto O.N.), Video In Video Out (Vancouver B.C.), and at the Visual Eyez Festival (Edmonton A.B.) He has also been exhibited internationally in media arts festivals and group exhibitions, most recently at Digital Art Weeks (Zurich, Switzerland). He has also released several recordings and live performances on CD and DVD in both solo and collaborative contexts. 2bears is a Ph.D. student at the University of Victoria.

Jean-Luc Veuthey alias Laser (CHE)
Jean-Luc Veuthey breaks the silence since his childhood between improvised music and academic studies in percussion classes with Pierre Métral at the conservatories of music in Geneva and Sion. In 1979, he becomes a member of SUISA as singer/songwriter with the name of LASER. In 1982, he worked on realization of arrangements for Masdongar, a Chadian artist, and dancer at Béjart Ballet. His disk Mariam received the Prix Découvertes RFI in 1983 and the price Maracas d'or in 1983. He continued to study composition with Dinu Ghezzo at New York University and participated in the creation of some of works of Cage and Babitt in the United States and in Europe with the NYU Contemporary Players and the American New Music Consortium. From 1989 to 2000 he is a head of the music publisher CELa b.v. in Paris.

Jin-Kyu Jung (KOR)
Jin-Kyu Jung is an Assistant Professor in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at the University of Washington Bothell. He received his Ph.D. in Geography and M.U.P. in Urban Planning from State University of New York at Buffalo. He earned a B. S. in Urban Engineering from Busan National University in South Korea. Jung's current research is particularly focused on ‘Computer-Aided Qualitative GIS’ (CAQ-GIS), an approach for storing and analyzing qualitative, quantitative, and geovisual data in both GIS and computer-aided qualitative data analysis software. He continues to work with qualitative GIS as an analytical framework to study diverse urban issues. More accessible and user-friendly forms of qualitative GIS will allow us a more ‘popular’ engagement with analysis and representation of local places and people’s everyday life.

Sunghoon Kim
Sunghoon Kim received bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University College of Pharmacy, master’s degree at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology Department of Biological Sciences, Korea and PhD degree at Division of Biology and Medicine, Brown University, USA. He then worked as post-doctoral fellow at MIT. He is currently a professor at College of Pharmacy and also at Graduate School of Convergence Technology of Seoul National University. He received several prestigious awards provided by various scientific communities as well as by Korean government such as the Korea scientist award (2003), the scientist of the year (2006) and The Best Scientist Award(2012). Since 2010, he is leading “Medicinal Bioconvergence Research Center” that is one of the biggest top-down research projects launched by the ministry of science , ICT and Future Planning (MSIP). In this project, he is paving a rapid and efficient target identification and validation system through integrated biology with convergence technologies and is linking this system to facilitate novel drug discovery.

John Craig Freeman (USA)
is a public artist using emergent technologies to produce large-scale public work at sites where the forces of globalization are impacting the lives of individuals in local communities. His work seeks to expand the notion of public by exploring how digital networked technology is transforming our sense of place. Freeman is a founding member of the international artists collective Manifest.AR and he has produced work and exhibited around the world including at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, FACT Liverpool, Kunsthallen Nikolaj Copenhagen, Triennale di Milano, the Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Beijing. Freeman is a Professor of New Media at Emerson College in Boston.

Jono Brandel (USA)
Jono Brandel is a part of the Data Arts Team in Google’s Creative Lab. Exploring procedural aesthetics, he relies on the combination of graphic design and computer programming and usually achieves his results in a screen-based component.

Joshue Ott (USA)
Joshue Ott is a multi-disciplined media artist and designer. His attentions have been largely devoted to creating superDraw, which is a software intended to create a program that could produce visual art, but behave more like a musical instrument. The superDraw fits with a tablet interface for drawing in real time, enabling a higher degree of physical interaction with the person using it, and arguably, a higher degree of interactive expression.

K-soul & Jardin Cosmique (CHE)
The Swiss artist K-soul develops his research on the edge of art and science. He allies modern technologies and traditional techniques to realize holokinetic artworks, poetic light gardens which he names "Jardin Cosmique". His work is a reflection of and is focussed on the human, the origin and the essence of the creative force and the holokinetic aspect of the universe. K-soul has shown his artworks in various exhibitions and in permanent galleries dedicated to his work, as in Barcelona (Jardin Cosmique Barcelona from 2010 to 2012), in Principality of Andorra (Jardin Cosmique Andorra), in Montreux (Jardin Cosmique Montreux), or at Laboratoire Jardin Cosmique. He received the distinguished Award of Excellence from the Bauhaus Universität in Weimar and the Premio Award of the Florence Biennale.

Kunwoo Lee (KOR)
Kunwoo Lee is a professor in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University in Korea. He received his BS(1978) from Seoul National University, and MS(1981) and Ph.D.(1984) in mechanical engineering from MIT. He was previously an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a visiting associate professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, and a visiting professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. He has been a vice president of the Society of CAD/CAM Engineers in Korea, member of the editorial board of "Robotics and Computer Integrated Manufacturing", and program committee chair of Solid Modeling Symposium. Currently, he is a Co- Editor in chief of the journal "Computer-Aided Design" and president of Advanced Institutes of Convergence Technology.

Lalie S. Pascual (CHE)
Digital media artist Lalie S. Pascual received her MA in Fine Art at Central St. Martins University of the Arts in London, having being previously trained at Brandeis University, Massachusetts. Her practice explores boundaries between the natural and the digital worlds through digital processes that synthesize images and video footage into new “states of existence”. She was a finalist at the 2006 Celeste art price in London and won the 2007 Drawing Conclusion Competition by ArtSEEN Journal. She exhibited internationally with Monika Bobinska Gallery, London, Gallery Lucy Mackintosh, Lausanne, the Cyberarts festival and gallery, Boston, the FPAC gallery, Boston, the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Vaudois, the EPFL, Lausanne, and DAW international. Since 2011 she is an associate member at the Manifest.AR collective developing new forms of augmented reality art interventions.

Lily & Honglei (CHN/USA)
Based in New York and Beijng, Lily & Honglei work as an artist collective. Utilizing traditional painting and animation, as well as new media such as virtual reality and augmented reality, Lily & Honglei create ‘visual fables’ intertwining current social issues with cultural heritages. Lily & Honglei’s works exhibit at numerous international and national venues, including Museum of Art and Design in New York, Institute of Contemporary Art Boston, The Painting Center of New York, Eyebeam Art Technology Center New York, Zero1 Biennial in San Jose CA, New York Artist Residency Studios Foundation Gallery, Shanghai University Gallery in China, FILE-Electronic Language International Festival in Brazil, Queens Museum of Art in New York.

Mario von Rickenbach (CHE)
Mario von Rickenbach is a swiss game designer and developer. He studied game design at the Zurich University of the Arts, where he received a bachelors degree in 2010. His award-winning works include Mirage, a quirky game about a surreal creature and Krautscape, a generative racing game. In his latest collaboration with Etter Studio, they released the games Drei and EMC, which were internationally exhibited. Mario regularly gives talks and workshops all around the world about his specific approach to making games. Recently, he got invited to do an artistic research stay at CERN later this year.

Michael Spahr aka VJ Rhaps (CHE)
He is an artist and filmmaker. He lives and works in Bern (Switzerland). He creates video collages by animating and manipulating photos and calligraphies. His work is often interdisciplinary and performed in real-time. He produces audio-visual live performances as well as interactive video backdrops for concerts, plays or new media art shows. He studies history, philosophy and media science at Universität Bern and history at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where he received a Master of Arts.

Monika Rut (POL/CHE)
Monika Rut is a cultural researcher and a photographer. She holds a Masters in Arts Managemant from University of Bologna and Hamburg University of Music and Theatre. Since completing her studies, she has worked with a number of international organizations including: Kulturprojekte Berlin GmbH, Museum Moderator Berlin, WIRgallery, zeroproject.berlin, phoenXfotostudio, ECF, Academia Vitae, ZAD berlin, ABADIR (Arts Between Architecture Design & Interdisciplinary Research). She is a founding member of Landform.

Nadezda Suvorova (CHE)
is a Masters student in Media Design at Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD – Geneva). With a background in graphic design, she always expressed the will to work beyond the medium of print, naturally attracting her to new technologies and forms of expression in her self referential poetic-technological world. She works and produces interactive works at the limit of the natural and supernatural worlds synthesizing nature and art in human experience, inviting reflection and interpretation.

Noxious Sector (CAN)
Noxious Sector is an ongoing collaborative endeavor by Canadian artists Ted Hiebert, Doug Jarvis, and Jackson 2Bears. Their projects are dedicated to the exploration of questions of imaginative, paranormal, and absurd. Conceived as a formalized forum for informal inquiry, Noxious Sector focuses on challenging the boundaries between the imaginary and the everyday, and building from stories of strange science and the paranormal from which to wonder about the creative possibilities of speculative living.

Peter Aerschmann (CHE)
works since 1999 as an artist in the fields of video and interactive computer installations. He studies at University of Art and Design Basel and at Bern University of the Arts, Hochschule der Künste Bern HKB. He is the Initiant, co-founder and board member of PROGR foundation, Bern. His work has been exhibited at galleries, festivals, and museums internationally including Palazzo Grassi Venice (2012); The National Art Museum of China, Beijing (2010); The Musée d’Art Moderne Luxembourg (2009); Berlinische Galerie – Landesmuseum für Moderne Kunst, Berlin (2008); The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse, Miami (2008); ZKM – Museum of Contemporary Art, Karlsruhe/D (2007); Kunstmuseum Bern (2005).

Raffaello D’andrea (CAN/CHE)
Spanning academics, business and the arts, Raffaello D’Andrea’s career is built on his ability to bridge theory and practice: He is Professor of Dynamic Systems and Control at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, where his research redefines what autonomous systems are capable of. He is also co-founder of Kiva Systems (recently acquired by Amazon), a robotics and logistics company that develops and deploys intelligent automated warehouse systems. In addition, he is an internationally-exhibited new media artist, best known for the Robotic Chair (Ars Electronica, ARCO, London Art Fair, National Gallery of Canada) and Flight Assembled Architecture (FRAC Centre, France).

Raymond Saner (CHE)
Raymond Saner teaches at Basle University, Switzerland and at Sciences Po, Paris and is partner of research consortia. The most recent ones focus on the impact of philanthropic organisations’ funding of the health sector in least developed countries and another one focused on the role of inter-ministerial policy making (Swiss Network of International Studies). Raymond Saner is co-founder of CSEND, a Geneva based NGRDO (non-governmental research and development organization, 1993-present), and expert working for international organizations and UN Agencies. His current UN related work concerns the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In regard to public affairs and public management, Raymond Saner has co-authored leading publications in the field of business diplomacy (Academy of Management Executive), international economic diplomacy (Diplomatic Studies, The Hague) and international negotiations (Books in German, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese). He teaches theses subjects at diplomatic academies and as trainers for Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Ruslan Gaynutdinov (CHE)
Ruslan Gaynutdinov has graduated from the University of Art and Design, Lausanne Switzerland with a Bachelor in Media & Interaction Design. Currently works at The Black Sail.

Scott Sona Snibbe (USA)
Scott Snibbe is a pioneering digital artist and entrepreneur whose works include apps, video, and interactive installations. He has received the Webby and Ars Electronica awards, and grants from National Science Foundation, Ford Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and the Rockefeller Foundation. Snibbe is currently a CEO of social music video startup at Eyegroove and serves as an advisor to the Institute for the Future and the Sundance Institute.

Shunichi Kasahara (JAP/USA)
Shunichi Kasahara has the background of Information Engineering and Interface Design, and focuses on the research about Human computer interaction and designing interface to provide novel relationship among human, real-world and digital information. At Waseda University, he finished his master's degree through the research about embodiment music interaction with artificial intelligence. At R&D section in Sony Corporation, he works on development of mobile interface. Recently he is working on interaction development with Augmented Reality, and developed AR mobile interface with Sony's AR recognition technology "SmartAR". From February 2012 to August 2012, he stayed Tangible Media Group at MIT Media Lab as a affiliate researcher and did collaborative research with ML members.

Simon Schubiger-Banz (CHE)
works as a senior engineer at Swisscom Innovations, teaches a mobile systems architecture course at ETH Zurich, and is an associate researcher of the Pervasive and Artificial Intelligence group (PAI) at the University of Fribourg (DIUF). His research interests include multimedia performance systems, knowledge representation, programming languages, user interface design, and mobile computing. He is a co-developer of the Soundium2 multi-media system. Simon Schubiger-Banz received a Ph. D. in computer science from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. He is a member of the ACM and president of the Corebounce Association.

Stefan Müller Arisona (CHE/SGP)
Stefan Müller Arisona is a Principal Investigator at ETH Zurich's Future Cities Laboratory and an Assoc Professor (Adj) at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. His main interests are at the intersections of science, art and technology, and his research focuses on interactive and generative design tools for architectural and urban modelling and simulation. Stefan graduated in Electrical Engineering at ETH Zurich, completed his PhD at the University of Zurich in 2004, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara from 2007 - 2008. He is co-author of Procedural's (now Esri's) CityEngine. As an artist, Stefan has performed internationally and his works have appeared at renowned venues such as the Ars Electronica Center (Austria, 2006 - 2008, 2009)

Sun Kim (KOR)
He is a director of Bioinformatics Institute and an Associate Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Seoul National University. He was a Faculty Division C Chair from 2009 to 2011 and Assistant/Associate professor from 2001 to 2011 at Indiana University School of Informatics and Computing. He won both the title of Leaders in 1000 Technologies for 2020 from National Academy of Engineering Korea and On-BIT Award from Korea Society for Bioinformatic and Systems Biology in 2013.

Tai Hyun Park (KOR)
He studied in Seoul National University and then earned M.S. in KAIST and Ph.D. in Purdue University. Currently, he is the director of Bio-MAX Institute of Seoul National University.

Ted Hiebert (CAN)
is a Canadian visual artist and theorist. His artworks have been shown across Canada in pubic galleries and artist-run centres, and in group exhibitions internationally. Recent exhibition venues include The New Gallery (Calgary, AB), the Comox Valley Art Gallery (Courtenay, BC) and the Siauliaia Art Gallery (Lithuania). Hiebert’s theoretical writings have appeared in, among others, The Psychoanalytic Review, Technoetic Arts, Performance Research and CTheory. He is an Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Arts at the University of Washington Bothell.

The Curious Minded (CHE)
The guiding principle of the international arts group Curious Minded is simply to remain healthy and curious. Since their founding in 2010, Curious Minded has expanded with a “no-names-needed” approach with members residing in Berlin, Montreal, Warsaw, Zurich, and Seoul. The group has produced a diverse number of art objects in the form of witty games, viewing cards, bedtime stories, and a variety of easy music works. Several works are now available for purchase at museum stores. Because their work lies outside of the periphery of the art market and created to be “played”, the group often avoids the beaten path and focuses on new approaches for exhibiting. Curious Minded has exhibited in museums and galleries in North America, Asia and Europe.

The Human Brain Project EPFL (CHE)
The Human Brain Project (HBP) is a research project which aims to simulate the human brain with supercomputers to better understand how it functions. The end hopes of the HBP include being able to mimic the human brain using computers and being able to better diagnose different brain problems. The project is directed by the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and co-directed by Heidelberg University, the University Hospital of Lausanne and the University of Lausanne. It is supported by the European Union as a ‘FET Flagship’ project and the 86 institutions involved will receive one billion euro in funding over ten years. Neural networks expert Geoffrey Hinton has expressed his doubts that the Human Brain Project will succeed, because it depends on “too many moving parts that no one yet understands”.

Tobias Neukom (CHE)
is a Swiss math student. As a child his dream was to become a game developer. When time for university came he gave up on it though as it is not a very realistic career goal in Switzerland. Instead he chose to study math (in part because it is applicable in game development). He also always found water fascinating and when He started studying math to create a fluid simulation. After several attempts He had something cool and decided to use it to finally realize my dream of creating a game.

Valentin Heun (CHE)
Valentin Heun is a PhD student in the Fluid Interfaces Group. He is interested in transferring benefits from our shared digital experiences to our physical reality. Prior to his arrival in the group, he cofounded a human computer interaction company supported by an entrepreneur's scholarship from the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. He holds a Master of Science from the MIT Media Lab, the German Diplom (eq. Master) in Design from the Bauhaus-University Weimar and pursued interdisciplinary studies in the field of design and engineering at the Pratt Institute New York, Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and Johan-Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt.

HEAD Geneve (CHE)
Located in the heart of the city, HEAD Genève is the most important art and design training institution in Western Switzerland. The major in Media Design is based on the creative potential of new technologies. Its aim is to train designers to imagine and develop innovative projects, both in terms of design and usage, in fields such as games, network communication, electronic publishing and mobile media.

Urich Lau (SIN)
is a Singaporean visual artist, independent curator and art educator. He works in video art, photography and printmaking. He has exhibited in Singapore and other countries including Australia, China, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Serbia, Thailand, USA and Uzbekistan. Recent exhibitions include the Singapore Biennale 2013 and the VII Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Art. He works an art lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts, the current President of The Artists Village and a resident-artist at the Goodman Arts Centre in Singapore.

Lim Shengen (SIN)
creative journey and training are found root in architectural training, diverging naturally towards the visual arts during his time as an apprentice fashion photographer. Having a background in painting, sculpture, installation, video and photography, his practice is geared in a multidisciplinary manner that seeks new presentations of traditional methods. Shengen is an active participant in the Singapore art scene and a member of The Artist Village, a contemporary art society. He has also recently relocated to Seoul, South Korea to pursue his practice and perhaps his masters program in the near future.

Marcel Gaspar (SIN)\\ is a Singaporean artist, he began taking photographs at a young age and exhibited his first video art in LASALLE Foundation Studies Exhibition in 2011. Before he came to LASALLE, he studied Graphic Design at Raffles Design Institute and Mechatronics at ITE and Temasek Polytechnic. Besides LASALLE exhibitions, he have exhibited different places and assisted artist in Asia. He is inspired by movies, people around him and documentary. His photography reflects the remarkable ability in observing things around him and combining the mechanical knowledge to share those observations with his audience. Gaspar is finding new ways to present photography, pushing the boundaries of photography and believes that the camera is not the only equipment that could take a photo. He wants to show the world that photography is not just a pretty photo.

Teow Yue Han (SIN)
is an interdisciplinary artist with a keen interest in gestures and interaction. Not confined to any medium, he seeks to explore the aesthetical residue of identity and the intersection between physicality and technology. He received the prestigious Art Elective Programme (AEP) Scholarship in 2004 and continued to exhibit his final year project at the 2007 AEP Exhibition held at NAFA. Yue Han graduated from NTU School of Art Design and Media (ADM) in 2012 with a BFA in Digital Filmmaking. He has performed locally at Fetterfield, R.I.T.E.S., Night Festival 2010, NOW! and exhibited internationally at London and Beijing. He now lectures part-time and is a core member of FOCA (Free of Charge Artshow) - a curatorial team interested in engaging alternative spaces, critical discourse and cross - collaboration.

Chen Sai Hua Kuan (SIN)
lives and works in Singapore. Graduated with a Master in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London in 2007, Sai’s practice encompasses sculpture, drawing, installation, photography, sound and performance. Sai has exhibited extensively, including ‘Sound of the Earth’ (2013, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan); ‘EV+A’ (2010, Ireland); ‘Moscow International Biennale for Young Art’ (2010, Russia); “Busan International Short Film Festival”, (2010 Busan, South Korea); ‘14th Media Art Biennale WRO’ (2011, Poland); ‘Luleå Art Biennial’ (2011, Sweden), and “International Festival for Arts and Media Yokohama 2009” (2009, Yokohama, Japan). He was also awarded the Artist-in-residency Award, Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan (2013); The People’s Choice Award, ‘Mostyn Open 18’, Wales, United Kingdom (2013); The Visiting Artist Program of Earth Observatory Singapore, Singapore (2012); Best of WRO, 14th Media Art Biennale WRO 2011 - Alternative Now, Wrocław, Poland (2011); Artist-in-residency Award, Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom (2011); Best film of FAFF2010, Fundada Artists’ Film Festival, Wakefield, United Kingdom (2010); Winner of International Competition, “Tower Kronprinz: Second Advent”, National Centre for Contemporary Art, Kaliningrad, Russia (2009).

Kai Lam (SIN)
Kai Lam (A.K.A Singlish Punk) is a multi-disciplinary artist with a background in Sculpture. Lam’s foray into aural works and sonic arts is a result of his extended practice in video, installation art and performance art. He had started his formal training in visual arts in 1995 at LASALLE College of the Arts and in 2001 he was awarded a study grant from Lee Foundation and an education bursary from National Arts Council, and graduated from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology’s Bachelor of Arts. As an artist-organiser, he had initiated critical artists run projects like, Artists Investigating Monuments (1999), Future of Imagination (2003) and Rooted In The Ephemeral Speak (2009). Since 1999, He had traveled to different countries around Asia and Europe to present his performances and art projects.

FCL SEC
Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) The Future Cities Laboratory (FCL) is a transdisciplinary research programme focused on sustainable urbanisation on different scales in a global perspective, laying the foundation for a new form of urban studies programme. FCL is co-initiated by the ETH departments of Architecture (DArch) and Civil Engineering (DBaug). It is the first research programme of the Singapore-ETH Centre for Global Environmental Sustainability (SEC). It is home to a community of over 100 PhD, postdoctoral and Professorial researchers working on diverse themes related to future cities and environmental sustainability.
